Film Noir

There's something breathtaking about black and white photography. Sometimes I even struggle to recognise a picture when it's edited to black and white. Being a photographer, I edit a lot of wedding photos and tend to make the important, emotional moments black and white in post processing. I'm not sure whether it's the classicality of the black and white, or simply because it's different to what we see in real time. I find they tend to have more depth. Now, I'm not condoning transferring every damn image to black and white because that defeats the purpose. Annnd I have found that every up and coming photographer tends to take those shadowy dusk/dawn photos and turn them to black and whites- so deep (not). But regardless, when done properly, it's amazing.

Look at how beautiful Grace Kelly was, goddess.

A photo in black and white just seems like it has a certain sparkle about it. It might be because I tend to relate Film Noir days with black and white images, all the glamour and beauty Old Hollywood gave birth too. The other day I went out to dinner to meet my fellow Archaeologists before we all leave for Israel, and I had a rare Grace Kelly moment...

I didn't even notice until I sifted through my pictures of Grace for some hair-spiration (it's a thing okay). I was pleasantly surprised! Her classy nature overrides my vain selfie though, of course. I like the way I look better in black in white, makes me feel like I'm a movie star in the 1950s. A girl can dream.
Please excuse the wearing of glasses inside... it was needed for the dramatic selfie haha. It was a good hair week, so I had to take an abundance of pictures and pick one out of the plethora I took to post to instagram. I'll continue wishin' and a hopin' I was Elizabeth Taylor... (Dusty Springfield song *cough*) because I certainly will not be glamourous in the 45 degree Israeli heat next week. Dirt, sand and heat. Maybe I'll rock my cat eye sunglasses while on site at the dig? I'll probably be sent back to Australia :P

Oranges and Sunshine

I've always liked novelty prints... whether it be old fashioned victorian florals or cartoon cats on a dress that looks like it was made for a three year old. I got a package a few mornings ago from the fabulous Pinup Girl Clothing, containing my most recent order! Their new collection released a few weeks ago and I was instantly drawn toward the skirt with oranges on it. Yes, oranges!
Isn't that adorable? 1950s eat your heart out. Nevertheless I fell in love the print and colours. I also bought a matching top, head piece and another pair of cat eye glasses (pair number 4 now). The outfit is so perfect!
Look at how sweet those oranges look! So colourful! The skirt just screams spring, which sadly, doesn't correlate with Australian weather at the moment... it was 10 degrees when I took this photo. Totally worth it. I paired the outfit with the classic wicker bag also from Pinup Girl Clothing, and a pair of Marilyn Monroe shoes from Nine West.

The skirt is immaculate quality-wise, PUG always makes fabulous quality clothing, so I wasn't surprised! The Doris Top is also beautiful to wear, low cut neckline, which makes wearing it on colder days a bit hard, but you deal with it. I bought the top in size Small, because I tend to have a small upper body, but the skirt is a Medium- sadly I don't have the 1950's tiny 20 inch waist. I felt like a little house wife from the nifty fifties! I want to wear it allllll the time. So fruity, am I right?

Fresh Start & Salutations

So, I have come from a previous tumblr blog of 900 followers which I had for about 4 years! It's time for a fresh start, and a dashboard not filled with pictures of Lana Del Rey. (I mean, sure, she sounds great but how many pictures with lyrics can you have). I want to dedicate this blog to my two loves, vintage culture and history. So... there will be outfit posts, general musings, history news and many posts in relation to the 1950s. I might also add I have an unhealthy obsession with Elizabeth Taylor's eyebrows.

I’m hoping that through my travel and soon to come expedition to Tell es-Safi (Israel), I will produce some decent photos and blog posts, recording my process and many adventures! Seeing as I haven't planned a proper introductory post, here is a photo of myself and my little cavalier Penny. <3
